About four years ago the former Geyers
Schwarzer Haufen musicians Thomas Roth, Albert Dannenmann and Jost Pogrzeba
joined forces with Georg Hesse (guitars) and Mike Walter (bass), calling
themselves Geyers from then on. The Geyers always take their audiences
on a trip back into the full sensuality of medieval life - their predominant
devine motto being: All voll - a pun, on the one hand referring to everybody
being drunk, on the other hand referring to a completeness of all senses
used for taking in - take all or nothing! Now the status quo might have
caused a riot during the Peasant Wars, but fans of great music appreciate
it a lot: The halberds have been exchanged for various instruments,
the peasants have turned into minstrels, taking their audiences on a
musical journey through the past centuries - not neglecting the humorous
side. Besides drinking songs and lovesongs (or rather songs referring
to love in a rather special way) the Geyers repertoire also includes
subtle polyphonic movements, representative of the mystical thrill of
the music of the middle ages and Renaissance period. Inbetween the songs
there are well-aimed verbal attacks against the clergy and the regents
of our time. The Geyers demonstrate their exceptional skills on a great
diversity of ancient instruments and celebrate their interpretations
of medieval music and poetry in different ways - sometimes soft, tender,
at other times filled with lots of power - but always very joyful. The
sound of the Geyers can be enjoyed as an acoustic show or as an historic
rock programm (electric and acoustic) - the latter shows featuring Maik
Walter on electric and double bass. The Geyers also do dinner shows,
stretching way beyond the middle ages.
